The Winter Sprinter - Sunday 4th March 2018

EVENT UPDATE 2ND MARCH: We are going to process a FULL refund for all entrants. We haven't been able to find another date for the event until June. Only a lunatic would organise a ride in June as nobody ever turns up due to holidays, weddings, christenings etc etc. We've also had a few people email and say to just pass the entry over to the Winter Warmer sportive which is normally at the end of October however that doesn't help as we have to do the admin of keeping a record of those who want a refund and those who want to move it. Plus wouldn't you rather have your money in your pocket than ours? Refunds are being processed immediately. You'll get an email confirmation. Apologies again for the cancellation but safety first.

28TH FEBRUARY: Unfortunately we are cancelling the event due to the current weather situation. We appreciate that the roads could be clear by Sunday but we usually ride or drive the route several times in the days leading up to the event. Without these safety checks we cannot finish our risk assessments.

We are in the process of arranging a new date for the ride with the event HQ and our suppliers. Once confirmed we will offer to either move your entry to another event or we will process you a complete refund. We will confirm this on Friday 2nd March via email.

We apologise for any inconvenience but rider safety is always our first priority. We are also really, really sorry if you now end up being dragged around the Trafford centre or even worse have to suffer the hell of Ikea rather than ride your bikes but this is not a decision that has been taken lightly.

Now in it's eighth year the Winter Sprinter is well established as a great start to the cycling season. Heading out into the mostly flat Cheshire lanes, it's the perfect event to stretch your legs and get back in to the routine of riding.

The Sprinter sells out quickly every year and entries are limited to 300 riders only. WE DO NOT ACCEPT ENTRIES ON THE DAY.

The routes were revised in 2015 and we will no longer take on Swiss Hill but will instead ascend the nicer cobbles of Woodbrook Road. It's not a Winter Sprinter without some cobbles!

The feed station is at the halfway point of the ride and YES we do have Haribo and loads of cake.

Included in the entry fee we have tea, coffee, pre ride porridge and a post ride meal from Masterchef finalist Jackie Kearney of The Hungry Gecko. All riders all get free photos from Sportsunday

The entry fee is £25 and £20 for members of the Polocini Test Team (who also get a free beer). All entrants under 16 ride for free.

When entering please add YOUR mobile number in case we need to contact you on the day of the event. If you are making a booking for multiple riders we will contact you by email for their names and contact numbers.

We don't spam your inboxes with loads of pointless emails. All information and event updates can be found here.

The route gpx files will be updated on the Saturday afternoon before the ride once our final checks of the route have been made. The files are used purely as a guide and you should always follow the route arrows.

We are now able to make a few changes (and improvements) to the route after Knutsford because the road closures around the A556 have been sorted.

Once we have finalised the route changes and have done the necessary risk assessments we expect the final distance to be 66 miles.

2017 Route - 62miles/100km - Map/Profile/Gpx file - HERE/

REGISTRATION: Opens at 8:15 and riders leave from 9:15am. You will receive a number-board to attach to your cycle. Registration is a simple fast process. We even throw in some Haribo.

Riders will leave every two minutes in groups of twenty from 09:15. Because the event is organised to British Cycling rules we are not allowed to do a mass start.

FOOD: We have the best food of any events. This is because of the fantastic Jackie Kearney (master chef finalist) from The Hungry Gecko providing excellent food. Included in the entry fee we have pre ride porridge and a post ride meal plus tea and coffee. Please let us know if you require a vegetarian meal.

FACILITIES AND PARKING: Parking is on a first come basis. The car park at Woodford holds 150 cars. There is a large field which can be used for extra parking although if it’s wet then we strongly recommend that once the car park is full that riders park outside the venue on the main road. If you live within ten /miles of the HQ you really should be riding in!!! There are no changing facilities at Woodford except for standard toilet cubicles.

THE CAR PARK WILL BE CLOSED FROM 9AM UNTIL ALL RIDERS HAVE LEFT THE VENUE. Once the car park is closed riders can assemble in the entry area ready for a start at 09:15.

SIGNAGE: Our signs are black arrows on a yellow back ground. These signs are on solid correx boards. There is an example of these at registration for you to view.

Our support bike goes out ahead of the ride to check all arrows are in place. Chances are that if you ring up saying you've got lost you’ll get laughed at. With arrows and GPS you really shouldn’t be going off course!

FEED STATIONS: the feed station is located at the halfway point of the ride and is stocked with water, flapjacks, bananas and a few other snacks.

RULES: All Polocini events are organised using British Cycling guidelines. Details can be found HERE.

UNDER 16 RIDERS: All under 16's ride for free with a full paying adult. If you are riding with an under 16 please email with details so we can add the rider to our entry list.

EMERGENCIES: We require all entrants to carry a form of identification and emergency contact details. Should you get into difficulties at the event please telephone the number that is printed on your number board or you can save 07958 135862 in your mobile phone. We will send out a vehicle to collect you only in case of emergency or mechanical failure. Not punctures or tired legs. In 2012 we did have a rider who had a heart attack and this is covered as an emergency. There is no need to panic whilst you are out riding and push too hard. There is plenty of top grub for everyone.

TOILETS (ON ROUTE): There are toilets at various cafes, petrol
stations etc. But there are also public toilets in Bollington (20p) and Prestbury.

TIMING: Please note that we will not have a timing system at the event. We really do not like timed events!! ITS NOT A RACE.

Should you have any questions then please do not hesitate to email us at
