The Winter Warmer - Sunday 29th October 2017
Now in it's fifth year, our traditional end of season event sees riders heading out on a mostly flat route which takes in many quiet Cheshire lanes. The 64 mile distance isn't too long so you can either smash it or simply have a nice ride out with friends followed by some decent grub.
Check out a review of our our 2014 Winter Warmer by Sean Lacey of Cyclosport HERE.
Included in the entry fee we have tea, coffee, pre ride porridge and a post ride meal from Masterchef finalist Jackie Kearney of The Hungry Gecko.
The entry fee is £25 and £20 for members of the Polocini Test Team. All entrants under 16 ride for free.
When entering please add YOUR mobile number in case we need to contact you on the day of the event. If you are making a booking for multiple riders we will contact you by email for their names and contact numbers.
FULL EVENT INFORMATION AND RIDER BRIEFING CAN BE FOUND BELOW. We don't spam your inboxes with loads of pointless emails.
The route gpx files will be updated on the Saturday afternoon before the ride once our final checks of the route have been made. The files are used purely as a guide and you should always follow the route arrows.
2016 Route - 62miles/100km - Map/Profile/Gpx file - HERE
We will be making a few small changes to the 2018 route and expect the final distance to be 66 miles. Full details to follow.............
REGISTRATION: Opens at 8:15 and riders leave from 9:15am. You will receive a number-board to attach to your cycle. Registration is a simple fast process. We even throw in some Haribo.
Riders will leave every two minutes in groups of twenty from 09:15. Because the event is organised to British Cycling rules we are not allowed to do a mass start.
FOOD: We have the best food of any events. This is because of the fantastic Jackie Kearney (master chef finalist) from The Hungry Gecko providing excellent food. Included in the entry fee we have pre ride porridge and a post ride meal plus tea and coffee. Please let us know if you require a vegetarian meal.
FACILITIES AND PARKING: Parking is on a first come basis. The car park at Woodford holds 150 cars. There is a large field which can be used for extra parking although if it’s wet then we strongly recommend that once the car park is full that riders park outside the venue on the main road. If you live within ten /miles of the HQ you really should be riding in!!! There are no changing facilities at Woodford except for standard toilet cubicles.
THE CAR PARK WILL BE CLOSED FROM 9AM UNTIL ALL RIDERS HAVE LEFT THE VENUE. Once the car park is closed riders can assemble in the entry area ready for a start at 09:15.
SIGNAGE: Our signs are black arrows on a yellow back ground. These signs are on solid correx boards. There is an example of these at registration for you to view.
Our support bike goes out ahead of the ride to check all arrows are in place. Chances are that if you ring up saying you've got lost you’ll get laughed at. With arrows and GPS you really shouldn’t be going off course!
OUR ARROWS HAVE POLOCINI ON THEM. THERE IS NO REASON TO FOLLOW ANY OTHER ARROWS THAT YOU MAY SEE.
FEED STATIONS: the feed station is located at the halfway point of the ride and is stocked with water, flapjacks, bananas and a few other snacks.
THE FEED STATION WILL CLOSE AT 1PM.
RULES: All Polocini events are organised using British Cycling guidelines. Details can be found HERE.
UNDER 16 RIDERS: All under 16's ride for free with a full paying adult. If you are riding with an under 16 please email email@example.com with details so we can add the rider to our entry list.
EMERGENCIES: We require all entrants to carry a form of identification and emergency contact details. Should you get into difficulties at the event please telephone the number that is printed on your number board or you can save 07958 135862 in your mobile phone. We will send out a vehicle to collect you only in case of emergency or mechanical failure. Not punctures or tired legs. In 2012 we did have a rider who had a heart attack and this is covered as an emergency. There is no need to panic whilst you are out riding and push too hard. There is plenty of top grub for everyone.
TOILETS (ON ROUTE): There are toilets at various cafes, petrol
TIMING: Please note that we will not have a timing system at the event. We really do not like timed events!! If you like to compare your ride time with other cyclists then please use Strava.
Should you have any questions then please do not hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
